Wireless Secured Data Logger

In 2015 the True RMS voltage recorder with enhanced memory was developed for PUCSL. In 2016 a logger with remote monitoring capabilities was developed for the same purpose but eliminated the need to bring the unit back to download the data. Instead the data was transmitted through the GSM based SMS service and the data could be viewed from a web based graphical user interface.

The current project is aimed at transferring the data in a more secure manner by adding another layer of security and to provide two way communications between the user and the logger. This facility will allow the user to vary the recording parameters as per their requirement. Additionally the feature to store data in case of link failure between the logger and the server and re transmit once the link is established is also to be considered. Further, the possibility to use Raspberry Pi as the server and to miniaturize the unit by modifying the power circuitry is also to be considered.

Objective:

  • To identify and implement a secure method for transferring data remotely.
  • To conduct a feasibility study to use Raspberry Pi as the web server.
  • To miniaturize the power circuitry.
  • To design & develop a secured wireless data logger that has the capability to

Resend data in case of link failure.
Respond to queries from the user.
